The trick to great photography does not lie in a camera. It is the man or woman behind the camera that is responsible for taking pictures that stir up emotions. The camera is just a tool. Good photography like everything else requires a lot of hard work, time, patience and even facing up to disappointment. It requires an element of talent and intuitiveness coupled with some training to be able to recognise a good photo opportunity.

My primary gear is a Nikon F100 film SLR camera. My preference is still film-based SLR photography. I grew up with it. I have been using film for 30 years now. It has become kind of a habit. Also, I think film-based photography has an edge. In film, you can make larger enlargements. Film gives a more superior image.

You know instinctively that there are people who are just very special. They have faces that 'speak' and we have to recognise it and ask the person for permission to take his picture. It is important to establish a certain level of trust with the subject. You have to be very respectful and wait for the person to become comfortable enough to relax.
